Dealing with Doorstep Sellers

The Milton Keynes Council have joined forces with Thames Valley Police to launch Thames Valley Doorstoppers, a campaign to encourage people to be cautious about doorstep sellers. I have stickers for residents to put on their front doors to warn off unwanted callers.   If you would like one of these stickers please contact me by e.mail or text to 07711 590600

This is a Ringmaster message from Milton Keynes police on Tuesday 6 December.

There are three messages to follow.

1.  Following a recent increase in house burglaries, we urge you to check your home security.  At this time of year, many householders are buying electrical items as Christmas presents.  Please store all items out of sight of windows, do not leave presents under the Christmas tree.  For the latest Christmas crime prevention literature, please call the Watch Office on 01908 686169.

2.  When out shopping, please do not return to your vehicle with full shopping bags and then go back to the shops to do more shopping.  There has been a number of incidents in the past few days where criminals have observed this activity, and then broken into the vehicle and stolen the shopping.

3.  Residents in this area have been receiving unsolicited telephone calls
from a Home Security company, offering to visit their home and do a free crime prevention survey. From the reports received the survey is free, however the items the agent encourages the householder to purchase can be very expensive and may be purchased at a fraction of the cost elsewhere. Trading standards have previously had complaints from relatives of elderly/vulnerable people who have spent a fortune on security products and smoke alarms that could have been fitted for a fraction of the cost.  Please do not enter into conversations with unsolicited callers.  If you wish to purchase security products for your home, always get three quotations, check local companies in the Yellow Pages, and ask friends and family for referrals.

Please remain vigilant to help ensure a crime free Christmas.

Please report any suspicious activity to Milton Keynes police on 0845 8 505 505.

This is a Ringmaster message from Milton Keynes police on Tuesday 22 November.

In a number of recent burglaries, access has been gained to premises via insecure doors.

Some householders leave their doors, particularly UPVC doors, unlocked especially when they are in the property.  It is best practice, to fully secure both front and rear doors, at all times.  This will help prevent opportunist burglars entering the property.

Please always remember to lock UPVC doors, with the key, at all times.  When you are in the property, ensure the door is locked with the key left in an accessible place, but out of view of doors and windows.

This type of crime can occur in any area. Please don't wait to take precautionary crime prevention steps, until you, or someone you know, becomes a victim.

This is a Ringmaster message from Milton Keynes police on Monday 21 November.  There are two messages to follow.

1.  Following two incidents over the weekend, Milton Keynes police are advising members of the public not to defrost vehicle windscreens, by leaving the vehicle unattended, with keys in the ignition and the engine running.

In one incident, an offender drove off in the vehicle, and in another a handbag was stolen from the vehicle.

2.  Whilst shopping, please do not go back to your vehicle and put shopping bags in the car, and then return to the shops to continue shopping.  Opportunist thieves may be watching, and when you return to the shops, may attack your vehicle to steal your shopping.
